Visit the National Geographic interactives:
In April 2007, National Geographic launched a new section of their web site devoted to educating readers about the environment. Several interactive design firms contributed to the project, including IF/THEN studio, who hired me to produce content for a set of interactives on the often misunderstood subject of global warming.
The time frame for the project was less than a month, and the content work for the interactives was to be spearheaded by us—not National Geographic. The content had to be collected, assembled, and verified as quickly as possible. My job was to coordinate this process and make sure the content was organized, factual, and persuasive.
We created three interactives: an overview of the greenhouse effect, a map of global warming impacts, and a timeline of temperature and carbon dioxide levels (soon to be launched). Each interactive contains a mix of scientific data and stories of people and places.
I conducted secondary research, coordinated input from climate scientists and domain experts, and liaised with National Geographic on content direction and scope. I recorded, categorized, and compiled all written content into a single set of documents, called content matrices, which I revised and iterated as needed throughout the project. IF/THEN studio designed and coded the pieces, and writer Jennifer Blue crafted the final copy.
I can help you create a rich-media web site or kiosk that inspires and delights visitors. Email me using this form or call 206-325-1422 to discuss the possibilities...
