I am an independent producer of web sites and interactive stories that inform, educate, and entertain.
I focus on managing the creation of interactive web sites and kiosks that communicate through words, images, motion, and sound. My projects typically involve stories and artifacts of historical or artistic merit. My clients include cultural and educational institutions, as well as commercial entities.
I am often involved in the conceptual phase of a project. My role as producer usually combines aspects of a project manager, art director, and content coordinator. I liaise with project sponsors, designers, and programmers. I may also research, collect, organize, edit, and develop content.
While I am comfortable producing large-scale web sites and complex web applications, the projects I find most satisfying are smaller in scope. Microsites for museum exhibits, interactive marketing pieces with rich-media, and in-depth documentary web features are my specialty.
My process incorporates aspects of information architecture and user-centered design to give order and meaning to your content.
Information architecture is a discipline based on methods for organizing content. Its goal is to help users find and make sense of content within an information space.
User-centered design is an approach to design that favors the needs and preferences of the user over factors related to internal systems or structures. Its goal is to maximize usability and usefulness for the audience.
I apply techniques from these disciplines to the production of web sites and interactive stories. Depending on the project, my deliverables may include audience profiles, usage scenarios, content inventories, experience maps, and wireframe prototypes.
My background has given me the skills necessary to use these methods to their fullest advantage. The result is content that is more accessible, understandable, engaging, and persuasive.
I have a master's degree in digital media communication and ten years of experience producing interactive work.
My professional experience includes work for interactive agencies as an information architect and interaction designer, as well as several years at Seattle University as the director of web communication.
I have worked on projects for corporate clients such as Drugstore.com, Flexcar, Getty Images, Microsoft, MSN, and Weyerhaeuser. I have also produced work for non-profits such as the Pacific Jazz Institute and the Women's Funding Alliance.
My work has received several awards including Netscape's Cool Site of the Day and Computer User's Editor's Choice. My projects have been featured in The Village Voice, The Seattle Times, and on Q13 Fox television.
In 2000, I was a judge for the Washington Software Alliance's Best Web Site award.
